چکیده

This paper presents an application for the development of stochastic models to predict the deterioration of infrastructure facilities. The main objective is to demonstrate the capabilities and limitations of two types of models, namely state-based and time-based models, which will guide decision makers in selecting the most appropriate model type according to management needs and data availability. Concrete bridge decks are selected for this application because they are considered one of the most deteriorating infrastructure components. Inventory and condition data required for developing the stochastic deterioration models are obtained from the database of the Ministére des Transports du Québec (MTQ). Markov-chain models, as an example of state-based models, and nonparametric time-based models are developed for bridge decks when no maintenance actions are taken. Although this application demonstrates the development of stochastic deterioration models for concrete bridge decks, these models can be developed to predict the performance of other infrastructure facilities for network level analysis.

Assessing the Performance of Corroding RC Bridge Decks: A Critical Review of Corrosion Propagation Models

Corrosion of steel reinforcement is one of the most prevalent causes of reinforced concrete (RC) structures deterioration in chloride-contaminated environments. As a result, evaluating the impact of any possible corrosion-induced damages to reinforced concrete bridges strongly affects management decisions: such as inspection, maintenance and repair actions. The corrosion propagation phase is a ...

Precast, Pretensioned, Post-Tensioned Concrete for Bridge Decks

The problem of concrete bridge deck deterioration on many of our newer as well as older bridges is severe, somewhat perplexing as to cause, and difficult to solve. Furthermore, the cost to highway agencies for their repair, and the cost of delay to the highway user, can be extremely large. The use of precast, prestressed concrete for bridge decks is a con cept of construction or reconstruction...

Service-life Prediction of Concrete Bridge Decks Using Case-based Reasoning

Bridge management systems (BMSs) are developed to assist decision-makers in optimizing the allocation of their limited budget on maintenance needs of bridge networks. Reliable deterioration models are essential constituents of BMSs that are used to predict the remaining service life of bridge components. The deterioration models incorporated in the recent BMSs have limitations that can be accep...

Concrete Bridge Deck Condition Assessment Using Robotic System Rabit

Development and implementation of RABIT (Robotics Assisted Bridge Inspection Tool) in condition assessment concrete bridge decks is described. The system uses multiple nondestructive evaluation (NDE) technologies in characterization of three most common deterioration types: rebar corrosion, delamination, and concrete degradation. The system implements four NDE technologies: electrical resistivi...
